Since our formation in 2010, Feel Beautiful Today,
a 501(c)(3), has been providing Arts in Health programs to cancer patients and survivors in Georgia through its 15 beneficiaries-in-kind cancer centers and hospitals.
Why We Serve: Pain, fatigue, anxiety, and other symptoms are common in those experiencing cancer. In seeking relief, patients increasingly are turning to alternative and complementary programs and therapies, reflecting the growing need for more comprehensive management of these cancer-related symptoms. Several studies suggest that more than 80% of cancer patients may use some form of complementary therapy in conjunction with other standard medical treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Patients normally do not expect these approaches to cure their disease but mainly use them to strengthen their immune system, relieve pain, or manage treatment-related side effects.
Who We Are: Feel Beautiful Today®, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation that was established in September of 2010. The organization partners with cancer centers and hospitals focused on providing "Integrative Oncology" -- an approach that looks at the whole patient; body, mind and spirit. FBT is staffed entirely by volunteers, which enables the organization to invest more than 90% of the donations received into fulfilling its mission. Since 2010, FBT has delivered more than 3,800 “Boxes of Love” to women and girls affected by cancer.

All of our programs are provided free of charge to the patients and include all of the supplies needed to create their Beautiful Moments for Hope. Feel Beautiful Today provides three distinct Arts in Health programs through its 15 beneficiaries-in-kind partner network.

FBT IMPACT
One of the challenges of battling cancer is that, despite the existence of familial and non-familial support groups, there is a tendency for cancer patients to feel isolated. For caregivers, it is likewise challenging. There are often no words or touch that adequately console or express the depth of one’s compassion. WHAT IS ARTS IN HEALTH?

Arts in Healthcare is “a diverse, multidisciplinary field dedicated to transforming the healthcare experience by connecting people with the power of the arts at key moments
in their lives."

While participating in creative activities such as painting, writing, and jewelry-making, patients experience the phenomenon of flow. It is this experience of flow that physiologically changes the way the brain and the body experience the world and how the patient views his or herself and the perspective illness.

At Feel Beautiful Today we strive to create an environment where true healing can occur, where cancer patients can express their pain and grief through the act of creating art. Somehow, there is a camaraderie experienced when patients begin to understand that they are not alone in their fight.

Patients are also given the opportunity to explore their mental and emotional health in a safe environment that better allows them to voice their feelings to nurses and doctors, providing more open channels for communication and better care.

Patients who participate in our programs get lost in the activities we provide. We personally see the satisfaction on each face of patients who have just completed what may have once seemed like an impossible task. We are honored that for just a moment, we can provide a time and space for everything else to fall away and a special moment of peace and calm to be experienced.

One of the most important aspects of what we do is that it is always in partnership with the conventional care the patients receive from their doctors. We are never competing with the medical staff but rather providing another outlet for patients to continue their current care.

We allow a space for the patients, and family members to engage both their mind and their emotions in a safe environment. Feel Beautiful Today has the privilege of partnering with hospitals and cancer centers to help provide patient-centered care through Arts in Health programs.
Every day we see the power of a communal experience including art. Patients entering a workshop are transformed through the activities and relationships they encounter. It is Feel Beautiful Today’s desire to provide every resource we can to help patients live a better life, and we believe art is a key component in the healing process.

GOAL
OUR ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO PROVIDE EACH NEWLY DIAGNOSED CANCER PATIENT WITH AN ARTS IN HEALTH PROGRAM THAT COULD IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE.
